The Wild Cards of ERP: Industrial Engineers

But Why Industrial Engineers?

Before looking for an answer to this question, it is useful to examine who the Industrial Engineer is.

“Industrial Engineering is the branch of engineering that efficient production and distribution of goods, products and service and designs, operates and manages industrial systems consisting of limited resources such as machinery, labor, raw materials, information, energy, environment and money, and improves the productivity and competitiveness of these systems. ”(1)

This definition above actually explains what Industrial engineering is very well.

What is it to do with ERP?

Industrial Engineers instinctively look at events and even life from a very broad perspective. Thus, they can easily catch the source of the problems. Industrial Engineers constantly question. Therefore, they can easily find solutions to problems.

Industrial Engineers play key roles in the installation and management of ERP software, which are presented as solutions to problems. Because whenever there is a problem, the Industrial Engineer who carries out that ERP project appears and definitely produces a solution to the problem. In fact, an industrial engineer knows very well to be an accountant, warehouse, planner or even the worker at the head of the machine when necessary. That's why I call Industrial Engineers the wild cards of ERP. Because an Industrial Engineer can take on all of the user roles in the company where ERP is installed, and think like them. Because an Industrial Engineer can think like them, solutions are produced that can make users happy. An ERP system set up with happy users is always successful.

In order for an ERP system to work properly, data must be entered in a healthy way. If there is healthy data inside, all ERP systems can generate any desired report. The important thing is to make the user happy, educate them well and make healthy data entry. Therefore, Industrial Engineers with their broad visions and analytical thinking skills can analyze the business processes of the company where ERP is established very well and put themselves in the shoes of the users. A company that has an Industrial Engineer within its structure always starts the ERP setup 1-0 ahead, just like you get a wild card in the first place in card games. This is why Industrial Engineers are the wild cards of ERP Systems. If you are using ERP and still do not have an industrial engineer in your company, you still have a chance...
